Front Ends and Couplers for Velaro CN

Voith Turbo delivers final drives: 3 840 type SE-380 units for 120 Velaro CN high-speed trains. Also 240 front ends, 240 automatic Scharfenberg couplers type 10 and 1800 semi-permanent couplers.

The Velaro CN is a further development of the German ICE and is currently regarded as the fastest serial produced train in the world.

One third of the drives will be built completely in the new Voith Turbo plant in Heidenheim-Mergelstetten. Heidenheim will also see the production of components, while the final assembly will be carried out by Voith Turbo in Shanghai. This is also where the front ends will be assembled, after being constructed and designed by Voith Turbo Scharfenberg in Salzgitter, and then locally procured from China suppliers. Due to extreme climatic conditions, the final drive will be newly configured – after all, the trains will drive through subtropical humid, dry-hot and extremely cold regions. The SE-380 final drive has been designed for maximum speeds of 380 km/h and impressive annual mileages of one million kilometers.

Products: Voith SE-380 final drives, complete front ends, automatic couplings and semi-permanent couplers from Voith Turbo Scharfenberg

Application: High-speed train Velaro CN for the route Beijing – Shanghai

Technical features: helical gears with flexible torque reaction bracket, light weight design, extremely tight labyrinths, low noise emissions. Front end with central maintenance access and efficient kinematics, as well as extendable Scharfenberg coupler type 10 with high energy absorption in the overall system thanks to collapsible tubes and elastic elements. Semi-permanent couplers with gas-hydraulic buffer. Capable of absorbing impacts with 1000 t mass at up to 10 km/h.
