Double-ended Ferries with 2 propellers |
 |
| Double-ended ferries are normally fitted with two propellers. If permitted by the principal dimensions, each end of the ship is fitted with a propeller on the centre line. The symmetrical shape of the ship is an advantage in terms of hydrodynamics and also represents the cheapest solution. If the ship's dimensions are subject to restrictions, or if required by conditions in the shipping channels which it will be navigating, it is also possible for the propellers to be fitted in a diagonally offset arrangement at the ends of the ship. In general, a diagonal arrangement is used only on relatively small and short ferries. |
