Double-ended Ferries with 4 propellers |
 |
| Double-ended ferries that require a high power output and/or are subject to draught restrictions are fitted with four propellers. In this arrangement, the required propulsive power is divided between two smaller propellers at each end of the ship. This makes it possible to meet the demand for larger and more powerful ships while taking account of restrictions in the shipping channels that are to be navigated. It likewise satisfies the demand for optimum propulsion-system redundancy. Even if one propulsion unit fails, the ship remains fully manoeuvrable and operational. |
