Offshore Supply Vessels with VSP

Voith Schneider Propeller for Offshore Supply Vessels
Economical and Reliable: Supply Vessels for the Offshore Industry with Voith Schneider Propellers

Supply vessels for offshore units have to meet high demands. They need to retain their maneuverability at all times and to keep the dynamic positioning capability even under extreme weather conditions. Thanks to fast changes of the direction of thrust, Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP) from Voith Turbo Marine allow dynamic positioning in a very economical way.

The reliable propulsion system Voith Schneider Propeller increases the economy of the vessels thanks to its high propulsion efficiency. The redundant design of the entire drive system ensures high safety. This design keeps the vessel under control, even if only one propulsion system is available.

Model tests and measurements of real size versions demonstrate that the Voith Schneider Propeller allows effective roll stabilization. Thanks to the short control times of the propeller, moments can be created that act against the roll motion of the ship. As a result, the roll motion of the ship is efficiently reduced – during sailing and also while the vessel is at standstill.

Advantages of the VSP for Offshore Supply Vessels:

  • the efficiency of the VSP is superior to other propulsion systems
  • fast and precise control and long service life
  • high availability
  • high maneuverability of the ship due to the VSP
  • stepless, highly accurate and fast control of thrust level and direction
  • high propulsion efficiency, reliability and robustness
  • additional roll stabilization of roll motions during standstill and sailing.
