March 2004 - From project to prototype
In March of 2004, the Voith WinDrive Project was officially launched with a kick-off meeting. A Voith Turbo project team was established for development. The team developed the basic concepts for the individual components and verified feasibility through a series of basic tests. At this point, challenging tasks such as achieving excellent efficiency, very high dynamic response (in the millisecond range for megawatt classes), a compact design as well as the requirement for a minimum service life of over 20 years were ultimately solved. |
